Metallaxis on Sustainability: Clothes that grow with your child.

Did you know that the average baby grows about 1.5-2.5 cm per month and 140-200 grams per week for the first six months? Growth occurs at an amazingly fast rate. So what happens to their clothes? Up until now, nothing. We would buy new clothes and either give the old ones away or keep them in case they become useful again in the future. And remember, it’s not only one set that will need to be replaced. After all, we all know that children are messy.

An innovative company called Petit Pli is addressing this sustainability issue by producing clothes that grow with your child. Inspired by the ancient Japanese art of Origami, these clothes expand in multiple directions but also shrink back to their original size. One set can actually fit a child for over three years. Consider how good this is for our planet: extending clothing life by nine months equals a carbon and water reduction of 20-30% each. Petit Pli has now own several awards for their innovative clothing design by Times Magazine, Nike and others.
