Telehealth: to realise its full potential, we need to change!

“Approximately 250 billion USD of health care could be virtualised” shared this recent blog post by McKinsey & Company. Covid-19 has led to enormous increases in HealthTech: in 2019 11% of US consumers were using telehealth, a percentage which has gone up to 46% now. But does Telehealth’s full potential look like and what are the changes we need to make for it to be realised?

This blog post highlights five areas where embedding virtual services would transform and revolutionise health-care provision. However, this value will not occur unless healthcare stakeholders, innovations in care models, new technologies, and supporting infrastructure enable it.

Telehealth: A quarter-trillion-dollar post-COVID-19 reality?

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth usage surged as consumers and providers sought ways to safely access and deliver healthcare. In April 2020, overall telehealth utilization for office visits and outpatient care was 78 times higher than in February 2020 (Exhibit 1).
