For the first time, two human passengers rode a hyperloop capsule through a nearly airless tube at 100 mph. As stated in this blog post by Dezeen, “Josh Giegel, CTO and co-founder of Virgin Hyperloop, and Sara Luchian, Virgin Hyperloop’s director of passenger experience, were the two passengers to ride the new form of transportation for the first time on 8 November”. In order to keep passengers safe, speed was kept at 100mph, even though Virgin Hyperloop project’s record to date is 240 mph. Virgin Hyperloop predicts that it can eventually get up to 670 mph.
What will this mean for the future of car and air travel? Hyperloop is 100% powered from renewable energy sources and provides clean and comfortable transportation. The question is: How much of all global transportation could be done by hyperloop?
Even though this technology is technically feasible, critics continue to question it due to infrastructure and safety challenges. Is this a ‘utopian vision’ or a technology that is just around the corner? Share your thoughts with us.
