Hydrogen-fuelled flights are being carried out successfully. Here are the implications of this innovation.

This ‘world-first’ hydrogen-powered passenger maiden flight was carried out on Thursday, September 24th, as reported by CNBC. A smaller, four-passenger hydrogen test flight had happened in 2016, by German Engineers. However, the flight carried out on Thursday demonstrates a significant improvement as the aircraft was much larger, resembling a commercial plane. Hydrogen airplanes are becoming more popular in the industry and evolving quickly, as several companies have shared goals for hydrogen flights.
Renewable energy sources are becoming increasingly cheaper than fossil fuels. As suggested by Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA, an important turning point in the energy transition has been reached.
What are the implications of this for democratic energy development? And how will the link between concentrated energy and political power change? Read the report here.

Hydrogen-powered passenger plane completes maiden flight in ‘world first’

A hydrogen fuel-cell plane that’s capable of carrying passengers completed its maiden flight this week, in another step forward for low and zero-emission flight. ZeroAvia’s six-seater Piper M-class aircraft – which has been retrofitted with the device that combines hydrogen and oxygen to produce electricity – undertook a taxi, take-off, full pattern circuit and landing on Thursday.
